Newburgh

Another trip over the Forth for Newburgh, looking to build on their excellent performance last week.

The game started well with Burgh taking an early lead after less than 5 minutes, they held onto this for the next half hour but lost 2 goals late in the half to go in 2-1 down at the break.

2nd half Newburgh tried to work their way back into the game but Armadale grabbed the crucial 3rd just after the hour mark.

As Burgh chased the game the Dale manged to get a 4th, so far offside everyone including the attacker stopped, when the whistle didn't go he took his chance and sealed the points.

The 5th just added to the pain.

A disappointing day, made worse by no sausage rolls and the worst pie on the planet.

Onto next week and a trip to Aberdeen on Scottish Cup duty. Hopefully Burgh can take some of their home form north.

A long trip North yesterday for Newburgh, in good company as both Lochgelly and Kennoway were also playing teams from the Aberdeen area.

The start for the Burgh couldn't of been much worse finding themselves 2 down inside of five minutes as Hermes took the game to them.

A determined effort saw Burgh get a foothold in the game and steadying things, getting a just reward by pulling a goal back after 20 minutes.

Hermes unfortunately restored the 2 goal lead within a couple of minutes.

A soft penalty award gave Hermes the chance to kill the game, but a good save saw it pushed past the post for a corner, with the half finishing 3-1 to the home team.

Second half the Burgh came out flying, harassing Hermes all over the park, their good play was rewarded with two goals in the opening 20 minutes to rightly level the tie.

The game settled into a more cagey affair but chances fell to both sides.

It was Hermes who were to get the decisive goal with 15 minutes to go.

Burgh pushed for another equaliser and thought they had it when the Hermes keeper fumbled a ball which was stroked into the net, only for the disappointment of the linesmans flag to be up for offside, one of a few 'odd' decisions from the far side official.

The game closed out with Hermes breathing a huge sigh of relief and Burgh wondering what might have been.

The end of the Scottish Cup adventure for another year and a return to league business next week.

Big test for Newburgh this week as Harthill visit in the league.

Harthill won the EOS cup tie last month by the odd goal in three so Newburgh will be looking for revenge.

Some good experienced players in the Harthill line up saw them through the tie, Graham Weir etc.

Newburgh have an excellent record at the New-Camp so far this season.

Should be a good game

Great game at East Shore Park today.

Newburgh were 1-0 up in opening minute and added a second around 20 minutes in with an absolute worldie from 20 yards

Harthill pushed hard for a goal up to halftime but couldn't break down Newburgh's back line.

Second half much the same Newburgh were comfortable even when Harthill pulled a goal back with 15 minutes to go Newburgh didn't look like losing the 3 points.

Excellent performance to maintain the home 100% record. Just need to win on the road now!

Away to Lochgelly next week in F&L cup

Griffin has hit the nail on the head, a cracking game with a stunning 2nd goal saw Newburgh run out worthy winners.

More than a few meaty challenges put in  by the visitors during the game but Burgh didn't let it knock them off their stride.

Only disappointing thing was to loose the clean sheet near the end.

On to next week and hopefully a bit of  long awaited away success, though I'm sure Lochgelly will have something to say about that.

A return visit to Gardiner Park for cup business yesterday, earlier in the season it was an 8 goal thriller with Lochgelly running out victorious.

The game started under dismal weather with a low mist and steady rain. It was a slow start for both teams with little in the way of goalmouth action.

On 10 minutes Lochgelly took the lead with a shot from out wide beating everyone into the roof of the net, slightly against the run of play.

On 25 minutes the lead was doubled with more than a hint of offside about the goal, but neatly finished by the attacker.

Burgh dragged themselves back into the game and managed to get things levelled by the half time mark, a just reward for their efforts.

The second half was to follow a similar pattern with Lochgelly regaining the two goal advantage, but Burgh again managing to peg things back by the final whistle.

Onto the lottery of penalties, nine better struck penalties you'll not see with neither keeper having a chance to make a save. The tenth was to prove crucial as the Lochgelly player rattled the post and the ball ran safe giving Burgh the win, probably fair over the balance of the game but not a lot in it.

A small word for the Lochgelly number 3, I'm told he's only 16 but he played very well and had the courage to take and score his penalty in the shoot out, good to see youth getting a chance.

A real old fashioned cup tie at Lochgelly yesterday end to end at times.

Lochgelly with a host of youngsters in their line up.

Newburgh as has been the case in a few away games recently played nice football and this week managed to get something for their endeavour.

Delighted to see us through and on the balance of play think it was the right result.

Lochgelly have done a lot of work on their pitch in the close season and it held up well under really trying conditions.

Another trip into Fife this weekend as Newburgh play Lochore Welfare at Central Park.

Lochore, managerless after Andy Healey's departure, are always a tough team to crack so should be a good game.

I have to say the new league set up, even with the extra miles, is very competitive.

Pumpherston will run away with the league I would guess. Second place is up for grabs to every other team in the league. There are no whipping boys so very difficult to predict the outcome of nearly every game each week.

It will be interesting to see what will happen come the pointy end of the season.

I think I am right in saying that 2nd place play off against 2nd in North Premier to go into the Superleague next season. Assuming all of well informed  theorists on P&B are incorrect and this isnt the last ever season for Junior football in the East......

We will wait and see

Really poor performance from Newburgh yesterday. Lochore could have won by more and we wouldnt have had any argument.

Just one of those days I suppose.

Good showing from lochore every one of their team played well.

A few well known faces in the crowd....

The away hoodoo continues.

The strong wind across the pitch made any high ball a lottery, with the soft park making keeping the ball on the ground awkward as well.

A referee who left both teams baffled with some of his decisions, my own favourite being blowing for a foul and failing to play the advantage as two Lochore players bore down on the Newburgh goal, if you didn't laugh you would cry.

Lochore were good value for their win though Newburgh had their chances they just couldn't get the break some of their play deserved.

Taking Pumpherston out of the equation as they are certainties for the league title, there's only 7 points between 2nd and 12th place it shows how tight the rest of the league will be. Anyone is capable of beating anyone on the day, it certainly keeps things interesting.

Back to East Shore next week where hopefully the good home form will continue.

Newburghs excellent home form continues with a solid 3-1 win over Lochgelly.

Three well taken goals and solid at the back apart from a mix up that led to loosing the clean sheet.

It looked like the Albert were missing a few regulars with a very young look to the subs bench, though I'm not convinced it would have made much difference to the result if they'd had a full squad.

The three games between the two teams have been good value with 20 goals and a penalty shoot out to view.

The three points also means that the Burgh have exceeded last year's season long points total after their opening ten games.

Onto next week and the visit of Bathgate, hopefully the home form will continue.

All good things must come to an end, Newburghs great home record coming to an end in an entertaining game.

From the off both teams went at each other, the vast majority of the play being on the ground with both teams avoiding the long high ball. It made for excellent viewing.

Bathgate took the lead slightly fortuitously from an unlucky own goal after the ball was delivered into the heart of the box.

Burgh pushed back and were awarded a softish penalty, the keeper pulling off a good save to push the ball onto the bar, the rebound was headed back onto the bar then cleared.

As it looked like Burgh would go in one down at the half another dangerous ball into the box was headed home by Bathgate to double the lead.

2nd half and Bathgate were happy to sit back and absorb any pressure Burgh could exert, the did this well limiting any chances. The Bathgate goalie was drawn into action once pulling off an excellent double save to deny the Burgh.

As Burgh pushed for anything the Bathgate forward was sprung from the halfway line and finished well to leave a lopsided look to the score board.

Bathgate were good value for their win but Burgh played well.

On to Cup action next week, and the visit to superleague near neighbours Star Hearts.

A decent game at Newburgh on Saturday ib which either team could have taken the points.

Bathgate scored their second goal at a great time for them right on half time.

They managed the game well in the second half to see out the game for the win adding a third late on.

Newburgh should be encouraged by their performance as on another day they may well have had a bit more good fortune in front of goal to change the game.

Tight, tight league this where any team is capable of winning as there are no low hanging fruit on the points tree...

Look forward to a visit to Star on Saturday to see the match against KSH.

The short trip to Star yesterday and a break from league business.

Burgh started the game well and were more than holding their own against their superleague hosts, all that changed after 10 minutes when the ref awarded Star a penalty and a horrendous red card to the defender, the penalty was missed but the damage was done.

Star took full advantage of the extra man and stretched to a 3 goal lead by the half, with the 3rd goal being the pick of the bunch with a lovely volley straight into the top corner.

2nd half and a reorganised Burgh tried to get a foot in the game, Star were happy to soak up any pressure and play the possession game when they had the ball.

Star got two further goals as they comfortably saw the game out.

A case of what might have been for Burgh as I'm sure the score would of been much closer if the game had been played with a full compliment.

Back to league business next week and a trip over the Forth to Stoneyburn, hopefully a good game awaits if the home tie on the opening day of the season is repeated.
